My name is Ricky and this is my blog. I enjoy running a hiking quite far over rough ground and sleeping outside too. This blog is basically me rambling on about it to anyone who might be interested, and if no one is interested i just like to write about my adventures and the things i get up to. Enjoy!

Lessons to be learnt from the Mark Parrish Round

Living in the Calder Valley, I’d had it in mind for quite a long time that we should have a 24hr peak bagging alternative to the Bob Graham in our local hills. I have come across the 39 trigs before, but to me this looked to be much further than a 24hr challenge for most people (I’m not sure if there has been a sub 24hr round?) and the route just doesn’t really grab me, so I began planning my own. I had a bit of a criteria that it had to fit also: 1.        It had to flow well (i.e. I didn’t want to be doing weird hill reps up the side of the valley just to get arbitrary ascent in) 2.        I wanted it to visit ‘summits’ or significant hilltop features. A Spontaneous Yomp to Penyghent

Easter weekend was coming up, and I hadn’t done much running due to a bit of a niggle in the last few weeks, but I fancied an adventure. Alice was going to be working for a most of the weekend so I had some time to myself so it was time for a spontaneous adventure. For anyone who doesn’t know, I am planning on going to university again to study physiotherapy, so I’m having to start embracing the Yorkshire ways and become a little tight fisted, so I figured I should do something on the doorstep. I didn’t fancy going for a stupidly long run because I just didn’t think I had it in me as I haven’t done much consistent training since my injury on my Mark Parrish Round attempt 7 months ago, but I felt I could manage some hiking, which I also fancy as a great way to build some conditioning and get some time on feet again without the impact that running long distances has on joints etc. I had thought about maybe just hiking and bivvying the Mark Parrish Round over a few days and close the ...
